William Shrank, MD, MSHS - How Health Reform Paves the Way for Improving Medication Use

 

 

Harvard Medical School faculty and former CMMI Director of Evaluation William Shrank, MD, MSHS brings first-hand knowledge of innovations in payment and delivery systems and how they are evaluated. In inaugurating the new Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing, he will discuss how the Affordable Care Act is affecting the quality and efficiency of medication use.

About William Shrank: Dr. Shrank is an internal medicine physician on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on improving the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of prescription medications. Until recently, Dr. Shrank served as the Director of the Evaluation Group at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. Shrank led the evaluation of a $10 billion health reform research agenda to develop and test new payment models aimed at reducing the cost and improving the quality of care. Dr. Shrank serves or has served on national advisory committees for the FDA, AHRQ, CMS, HHS, ASPE, USP, and the American College of Physicians Foundation.
